If there are a few things I know reasonably well, it's coffee and the city of Bath. Having been based here for just over a year, I'd like to think I've scoured the best spots in town to grab that caffeine-filled shot of magic. Whether it's a lunch hour recharge or a Sunday brunch catch up, here's a list to the places that I just can't stay away from...
With two centrally located stops (Kingsmead Square and The Corridor), Society Café offers exquisite speciality coffee in equally beautiful surroundings. Think urban funk meets minimalistic modernity. Expect local indie magazines and cute shrubs. Word on the street is, Huskee cups are imminent at this, immensely eco-aware establishment. At the fore-front of reducing plastic waste with their paper straws and Vegware takeout containers, Society Café wins my heart over time and time again (it also helps that it's situated perfectly on my commute). This little cuddly fella below says everything you need to know about this place and the amazing bunch of people that work there. Plus, the vegan peanut butter and banana cake is to die for!
The one thing that is faultless at Mokoko is the homemade cakes. With all sweet treats made fresh and daily in front of you in Bristol store, you can expect pure heaven with each trip. With two spots in the city – one grab-and-go and the other with exceptional views of the Abbey, you truly are spoilt for choice. The coffee is smooth and strong and the apple crumble muffins aren't like anything that you've tried before. Head to the Abbey Churchyard to sip alfresco or head on upstairs into the quirky, intimate rooms and enjoy a quiet escape from the bustling city.
Having only recently opened on Upper Borough Walls, there's one thing that's clear with this place – it's beautiful! A combination of marble, pink and friendly pups leaves it being one of the most chic places in town. The toasted banana bread is a must and not to mention the picture perfect pink beetroot lattes. Be sure to get there early on the weekends. It seems it's one of the hottest spots in town for brunch!
If there's one thing I'd suggest you try here, it has to be the eggy bread with bacon and avocado. It's a complete game changer and the perfect weekend brunch snack! Whether you fancy outdoor seating in Kingsmead Square or a whole host of indoor dining on Alfred Street, I can promise you you won't be disappointed. Each location is perfectly placed next to the must-see things in Bath. Grab yourself a freshly made banana and peanut butter smoothie or pick up a smooth latte – just be sure to take your reusable coffee cup if you're looking to have it to go. Boston Tea Party has recently announced that they will no longer use disposable takeout cups and I love it! Doing great things for the environment and serving mouth watering grub alike.
Tucked away on the cobbled streets of Abbeygate Street, you can find yourself transported to Colombia in this intimate, quirky establishment. The coffee is directly traded and ethically sustained and not to mention insanely good! You can also catch the team popping up around town at weekend fairs and summer events.
